Visions

Desert-starved mouths thirst for
The sounds of wordless hymns sung,
Dying on stale air,
Crashing on walls of sandstone silence
That reverberate into wordless, then
Screaming glossolalic rhythms
Fed by drought-wrought sermons,
Carrying a promise of water.
